PSEUDOBARBUS BERGIE, 2024
This river once housed the Berg River Redfin, Pseudobarbus burgie, thriving in the Eerste Rivier in shoals. The introduction of species like Catfish and Rainbow trout led to its disappearance.
This work, influenced by a personal and collective search for home, contemplates the notion of homelessness and reflects on the impact of environmental changes.
Positioned beside the river, it honours the memory of the Redfin and invites viewers to consider the fragile balance of ecosystems and our responsibility to preserve what is home to many species, including ourselves.
