Colour and Black and White Photographs Printed on Dibond
OVER THE HORIZON, 2024
Over the Horizon emerges from an exploration of climate change, driven by the question: could a lens made of ice form an image, and if so, how would ice ‘see’ the world?
This project replaces a camera's glass lens with one made of clear ice, successfully capturing images through this fragile medium. In December 2019, a six-week voyage to Antarctica aboard the SA Agulhas II allowed for the photographing of the ice-world through this ice lens by Brundrit.
By utilizing a material that is both unstable and vulnerable, the work introduces notions of precariousness into the very act of recording, reflecting the fragility of the environment.
