GUARDIAN OF OAKS, 2024
This organic sculpture, crafted from natural plant materials native to the area, features a giant squirrel curled around an oak tree, paying homage to Stellenbosch's beloved squirrels.
Known as the "Eikestad" (City of Oaks), Stellenbosch is renowned for its oak-lined streets, parks, and university campus, where squirrels are a familiar and endearing presence.
The sculpture symbolises the town’s peaceful, nature-rich environment and celebrates these playful creatures, who have become an integral part of the landscape. Take a moment to appreciate this tribute to nature, blending art with the beauty of Stellenbosch’s iconic oaks.
