Concrete and Steel
EXPLODED GEOGRAPHIES IV, 2024
Exploded Geographies IV is a meditation on place and displacement, using sculpted figures to explore the relationship between land, identity, and memory.
The work incorporates soil and dirt collected from various countries, embedding these elements into cement carvings of birds and figures. This act of gathering and embedding earth from different locations serves as both a reflection on and appropriation of the land, emphasizing themes of location, dislocation, and the fluidity of belonging.
The transient nature of the figures, which can be moved from site to site, further underscores the tension between permanence and impermanence in the human experience.
