Edoardo Villa

B. 1915

Edoardo Daniele Villa was a prominent South African sculptor, born in Bergamo, Italy.

His artistic journey began at the Andrea Fontini Art School and continued in Milan until World War II interrupted his studies. After being captured and transported to a South African POW camp, Villa remained in the country post-war, where he developed his career as a sculptor.

His work evolved from traditional forms to stylized abstractions, reflecting a cross-cultural synthesis of Italian and African influences. Villa's sculptures explore the human condition, balancing figurative elements with abstract forms, and have been exhibited internationally.
