Strijdom Van Der Merwe

B. 1961

As a land artist, Strijdom van der Merwe creates sculptural forms using materials found at chosen sites, shaping them in harmony with the landscape.

His process involves working with the natural environment, moulding these elements into geometric forms that gradually reintegrate with the surroundings. Depending on the exhibition or commission, he may also introduce external materials to make a statement about humanity's relationship with the land.

Many of these installations are temporary, designed to function only for the duration of a specific event, emphasising the transient and evolving connection between art and nature.
