The Stellenbosch Art Mile is an outdoor gallery featuring interactive art installations and sensory experiences along the Eerste River.
an outdoor canvas
This ever-evolving space serves as a public hub where nature, art, and community converge.
Artworks and site-specific features are carefully selected for their relevance, creativity, sensory stimulation, educational value, and playful interaction.
Artists were invited to engage with the distinctive landscape, history, and design of the area, fostering a dialogue with the surrounding communities and the urban environment.
sensory experiences throughout the year
The 1.6 km route crosses six bridges over the Eerste River, stretching from the pedestrian bridge on Krige Street at Markotter to the Coetzenburg bridge.
The theme for the inaugural year (from October 2025 to September 2026) is "Reflect: Beyond the Surface."
Reflection is an act of looking—outward and inward, forward and back. It is the throwing back of light, heat, or sound by a surface without absorbing it. It is the return of energy, an echo of what has come before. But to reflect is also to pause, to be pensive, to consider.
The exhibition highlights the works of both emerging and established artists, providing a platform to showcase a wide range of creative talent.
The Stellenbosch Art Mile is more than just a park – it’s a vibrant, community-driven space where creativity flourishes.
With the support of partners like the Stellenbosch Outdoor Sculpture Trust, Stellenbosch Trail Fund, Stellenbosch University, and Stellenbosch Municipality, this unique blend of art and nature has already begun to transform our town.
